Education

One of the three missions of the DAR is to promote education for all Americans, especially children. Through a variety of National Society committees, including the American History Committee, DAR Good Citizens Committee, and Literacy Promotion Committee, the DAR seeks to help provide educational resources across a wide range of topics.

How Our Chapter Supports Education

Inspiring Our Youth

Tabitha Moffatt Brown-David Hill Chapter, NSDAR, is interested in partnering with your classroom in grades five through 12 for the American History Essay Contest. We support the Beaverton, Aloha, Forest Grove, and Hillsboro areas of Washington County. However, if you are not from our area, please contact us and we will help you find a chapter to partner with you. Please contact our regent if you would like to take part.

Paving the Way with Scholarships

Students in Washington County are highly encouraged to apply for one of the many college scholarships offered by NSDAR. The vast majority of NSDAR scholarships do not require membership in NSDAR. The NSDAR additionally offers scholarships to Native Americans. We encourage students and teachers to learn more here.

Supporting Our Teachers

Each year, our chapter has the opportunity to nominate an Outstanding Teacher in American History from our area. Our nominees are sent to the state contest, which is reviewed by outside professionals. The state winner competes against state winners across the United States. The national winner receives a trip to Washington, D.C., to receive the award.

To be eligible, the teacher would need to work in a middle school or high school and teach American history. Do you know of a good candidate for us to nominate? Please send your suggestions to our regent.

Explore American History with DAR

Have you ever thought much about the American Revolution? Do you wonder how the United States Constitution came to be? Whether you are a student of any age, a teacher or a parent, the DAR has some great options for learning about these and many areas of American history. Email us to get involved with any of the DAR programs.
